This easy prep, jack-o-lantern face matching game is so much fun for preschoolers, they won’t even realize they’re learning! These puzzles are one of the many activities on our list of 31 Super Fun Halloween Activities to do in Preschool.
Two-piece matching puzzles are great for young children! Puzzles help develop their problem-solving skills, cognitive skills, fine motor skills (with picking up and placing pieces together), and hand/eye coordination. These Jack-O-Lantern face match up puzzles also give them an introduction to symmetry!
The object is for them to match the correct faces together. Mix the card halves up then let them sort and match. In doing so, they will mis-match some faces which can then turn into a silly mixed-up game.
Another variation is to play in pairs. Lay out one half of the jack-o-lanterns face up in one line at the top of your table space. Then put their matching halves face down in rows below. Take turns flipping over the face down cards and matching them to the face up cards.
Or you can play a game of memory with the cards and flip them all upside down then take turns flipping over the cards and seeing if they match!
This is a quick PRINT, CUT, and GO activity!
Simply print and cut out the cards, then cut them in half down the dotted line, and you’re ready to go!
It’s best to print the cards on cardstock paper so they are easy for little hands to pick up. I laminated the first set I used and they were hard for us to pick up. The heavy cardstock paper works better without needing to laminate.
