School Bus Name Practice for Preschoolers

by Bre Decena

I started Fun School Preschool at home with Emily in March but decided to do a few Back-to-School activities in August. I came across this adorable School Bus Name Practice Activity and thought it was awesome. Even more so because it’s a FREE printable!

I’m always doing name practice activities and we’ve made a ton of progress with letter recognition. Name practice activities aren’t just great for learning letters, they can also be used as practice for fine motor skills, and counting! To see what I mean, check out our Turkey Feather Name Practice Activity or Fall Pumpkin Name Practice Sensory Bin.

This school bus printable was super easy to put together: you print it, write the letters in the blank spaces of the bus, and cut them out. I had Emily work on her gluing skills too by having her glue each piece of the bus to a black piece of paper. And then it ended like any other project does that involves glue. You can read more about that in the post One Genius Way to Keep Your 2 Year Old Busy. 🙂

The school bus name practice activity also works great as a puzzle if you keep mixing up the pieces then have your child re-order the letters of their name. Or maybe even use it for the whole alphabet. Which would then make cute decor as a banner in your school room or classroom once all the letters are in order!

I recommend printing the school bus on cardstock paper if you do plan to use it as a puzzle.

This part of the post has been updated since the original was written: When we started kindergarten, I went back to this activity except this time I had Emily write her own letters on each section. Then I thought…

How fun and helpful would this bus be to practice other things during the year, like numbers and eventually words?!?!

So we did! I printed another set on cardstock and laminated the pieces. Then we used dry erase pens to practice upper and lowercase letter matching, numbers, including our phone number, Emily’s middle name and last name, and words she learned how to spell. Laminating them and using the dry erase pens made for repetitive use and I am still using this bus for back-to-school spelling puzzles in first grade!
